Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), an autonomous and not-for-profit institute, set up in 1983, is sponsored by apex financial institutions - the IDBI Bank Ltd., IFCI Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd. and the State Bank of India (SBI). The Government of Gujarat pledged twenty-three acres of land on which stands the majestic and sprawling EDII campus. To pursue its mission, EDII has helped set up twelve state-level exclusive entrepreneurship development centres and institutes. Today this effort has also been broad-based internationally in countries like; Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, in addition to efforts in the process, in select African countries and Uzbekistan. While the Institute evolved the first ever Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), it also launched the first-of-its-kind structured educational post graduate programmes in entrepreneurship to train students in New Enterprise Creation, Family Business Management and Development Studies. The domains under which the Institute works today are: Entrepreneurship Education & Research; Micro Enterprises, Micro Finance and Sustainable Livelihoods; Women Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship and SMEs and Business Development Services and Cluster Competitiveness, Growth and Technology. The Institute is working in close association and as nodal agency for various Ministries / Departments of the State, National and International Governments.

 

As the Nodal Institute, appointed by the Government of Gujarat, for Promoting Start-ups and as the anchor institute to strengthen entrepreneurship in the state, EDII has boosted the start-up wave by intermediating creatively among stakeholders such as; new age potential entrepreneurs, existing entrepreneurs, incubation centres, and venture capitalists. EDII has been consistently extending an array of business support services and resources to accelerate the process of New Enterprise Creation in various segments and sectors. In the international arena, efforts to develop entrepreneurship by way of sharing resources and organising training programmes, have helped EDII earn accolades and support from the World Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, UNIDO, ILO, FNSt, British Council, Ford Foundation, European Union, ASEAN Secretariat and several other renowned agencies.
